Background: Bio, Education, Work, Skills

I was born on May 19, 1983 on the island of Saint Pierre part of the archipelago of Saint Pierre and Miquelon. Saint Pierre and Miquelon (Google Map) is a France-owned territory, located 13 kilometers off the south coast of Newfoundland, Canada. With a population of about 6,000 people, Saint Pierre and Miquelon is the smallest overseas territory of France.
Growing up on a small island has greatly influenced my research vision. In Saint Pierre, everyone knows where water is collected and treated, what happens to sanitary wastewater and stormwater, how the transport system works, how and where electricity is generated, how solid waste is handled, and how the island accesses to the Web through telecommunication infrastructure. Knowing about all this infrastructure is a basic part of our lives. As an urban engineer having grown up in Saint Pierre, not specializing on one system but instead view infrastructure as a system of systems has become an evidence and a key component to designing cities that are more livable, sustainable, and resilient.
After having studied in different countries and traveled the world, I settled in Chicago in 2012 when I joined the University of Illinois Chicago as an assistant professor. I received tenure and became an associate professor in 2017, and I was promoted to professor (full) in 2023. In 2019, I spent six months as a Visiting Professor at the University of Transport Technology in Hanoi (Vietnam).
I am a citizen of France and the United States (naturalized in 2022). I live in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago with my wife and daughter.
